I wanted to be thankful but all I felt was grief

I miss my Dad, who passed right before Thanksgiving 3 years ago

So many Thanksgiving celebrations this week. There were a lot of cool weekend Christmas things going on too.

But I missed most of it. We drove to North Dallas to eat Thanksgiving Dinner with old friends, but my heart wasn't in it. I just wanted to go home.

I didn't hold my annual Black & Gold Friday women's empowerment conference. I didn't send out my MacaroniKid newsletter. I didn't even reschedule the dissertation interviews I so desperately need to get in.

I did eat some pie, but strangely wasn't hungry for all the goodies...

You see, I miss my Dad. And because he died right before Thanksgiving a couple of years ago, this is a tough holiday for me. It was already tough with all the social-economic considerations of the last couple years, but add the "thanksgiving trip home" to clean up where my dad fell and dig through all of his stuff to find insurance and military paperwork so we can get him buried and it's just been too much.

If you (or someone you know) has been through this kind of holiday linked to grief, please point them to the public facebook live video I did on Black Friday. You can find it re-posted on my YouTube channel: I wanted to be thankful, but all I felt was grief

Blessings,
